Tools for Internet Marketing – Promotion – Part IV – Testing & Copywriting

Posted by on September 19th, 2011 with 0 Comments

First, if you know you get 10,000 visitors per day, you are already testing. You are counting visitors (if you’re not, shame on you). If you are in business, you need to know what works and what doesn’t work. As a minimum, you may need to try two different presentations when people arrive. This is done with split testing in which half of your visitors see one page and the other half see another page. If one arrival page produces one sale per 10,000 visitors and the other page delivers 100 customers per 10,000 visitors, which page to keep is obvious.

Liken social media marketing to celebrity endorsement. You see a commercial in which Harvey Wallbanger (celebrity) says buy these x-ray sunglasses, “I cannot do without them.” The assumption is that Harvey is an influencer and his fans will be encouraged to buy the sunglasses. In Web 2.0 however, you must develop the trust of influencers and convince them of the value of your product.

Tools for Internet Marketing – Promotion – Part IV – Links

Posted by on September 14th, 2011 with 0 Comments

There are four types of links important to getting good (if not top) placement on search engines: (1) internal to your web site (already discussed); (2) to somewhere else away from your site; (3) to somewhere else that also has a link back to your site (two way links); and, (4) links on another site pointing to your site for which you do not have a reciprocal link (as in 3). In other terminology, internal, out bound, two way, and back links.

Tools for Internet Marketing – Promotion – Part III – SEO

Posted by on September 12th, 2011 with 0 Comments

Search engine optimization includes all the steps you take to have high level (number one is best) positioning on a web site that allows users to search for information through the use of keywords or phrases. It is almost impossible to determine exactly how many search engines exist and how they are interrelated. Tools for Internet Marketing – Promotion – Part II – Keywords

Posted by on September 9th, 2011 with 0 Comments

Great product if you are trying to determine niches with product deficiencies. You, however, are selling an existing product, yours or someone else’s. The issue is do you know how other people think about your product? People are searching trying to solve problems (theirs) and indirectly expressing the problem through their choice of keywords.

Tools for Internet Marketing – Promotion – Part I – Advertising

Posted by on September 8th, 2011 with 0 Comments

Now that your web site for converting potential customers into paying customers is in place, all you need to do is attract visitors to it. There are three ways to do this. The first two are related – someone searches on a search engine using some words and a link to your web site shows up – either through a listing in the search results or in an advertisement linked to the search word or phrase used. The third method is to have your web site link appear in another online area such as an article, a blog entry, on someone’s social media wall, or some other contextual presentation.

Business Tools – Payment Gateways and Autoresponders

Posted by on September 3rd, 2011 with 0 Comments

A payment gateway provides a means for the customer to securely (very important) send you payment. It might be a cash transfer (e.g., PayPal) or a credit or debit card payment (e.g., PayPal can also do this, but it could be another gateway such a ClickBank). Of course, you can do this yourself. But, considering the amount of work involved, using a payment gateway that charges a reasonable percentage fee makes better sense.

Web Site Tools – Part III – Links, Files and Movement

Posted by on September 1st, 2011 with 0 Comments

Link Checkers:  When you build a web site, you will usually have more than one web page, even if it’s just to submit an order.  These other pages are called by links, code that sends a new message to a server for more information or data, usually a new page. Let’s say that your site has two pages, sales and order. Your visitor really likes your sales page and wants to order.  Your potential customer clicks the “Order” button and gets a message from the browser that the requested page (from the link) cannot be found. This does happen and now your potential customer has morphed to a non-customer.

Posted by on August 29th, 2011 with 0 Comments

In today’s multimedia world, incorporation of audio and video almost seems a must. While I would caution that gratuitous audio/video can have negative consequences for your web site, at some point you will want it – just like everybody else.

Web Site Tools – Part I – Code Editors

Posted by on August 27th, 2011 with 0 Comments

Unfortunately, HTML is not the only code that gets entered into a web page or is needed by web page systems (e.g., WordPress). There are several of the languages (coding systems) that may or may not be used.
